On Taiyue Mountain, in Shanxi Province, China, the rates of CO 2 release from forestland soils to the atmosphere in summer days were measured by using the Li cor-6200 instrument and a soil respiratory chamber. The CO 2 release rates were 10.05, 10.96,4.31, 4.94 and 4.67?m\+3·hm\+ -2 ·h -1 ,for a Quercus liaotungensis forest, a Quercus liaotungensis bush , a Chinese pine plantation, a Larix principis rupprechtii plantation and a bare land, respectively. And the CO 2 release rates were related with the organic carbon storage in the soils.
