On The Poetry Composed by YU Yi-ao

余一鳌是清代词人之一,一生体弱多病,淡于名利,感一生命途多舛,每发为词章。词的内容大为羁旅行驿之劳顿,天涯倦客之思乡,而且多表达身世愁怨之情。就其词创作特点看,受常州词派影响较大,在技法上常活用前人诗词句,尤其化用李清照词句较多。因一生苦难重重,晚年于佛道思想中求解脱。

Yu Yi＇ao was a poet of Qing Dyrmsty during the reigns between Emperor Tongzhi and Emperor Guangxu. The contents of his poems were mostly about travelers＇ tiredness and homesickness on the way, as well as the sadness and resentment of his life experience. His poems are characterized by the flexible quotations of former poets＇ words, especially that of Li Qingzhao, and his composition thoughts are greatly influenced by the school of Changzhou. Since his whole life was full of distress, he turned to seek relief in the thought of Buddhism and Taoism.
