This paper presents requirement of axle box bearing deign and type selection for 33 t heavy axle load locomotive, compares the characteristic of unitary roller bearing and non-unitary roller bearing, and indicates that the unitary cylindrical roller bearing is the perfect choice for the axle box of heavy axle load. The selected bearing can meet the using requirement of 33 t heavy axle load locomotive through calculating the bearing life.
