A Cognitive Semantic Analysis of English Plural Nouns from the Perspective of Prototype Theory

运用原型范畴理论对英语名词复数的语义进行比较分析,认为名词是一个原型范畴,内部成员有中心与边缘之分,其中心成员在语义和句法上更多地表达名词特有的意义,而边缘成员不仅具有中心成员的某些典型语义和句法特征,而且具有与其相近的新的意义。

By using prototype theory,this paper makes a comparative analysis of different meanings betw een English nouns and their plural forms and presents a view that nouns can be a kind of prototype in w hich all members can be divided into the central members and the marginal members.It is clear that central members of nouns express the typical characters either in meanings or syntactic structures,w hile the marginal members have some new different meanings from the central members w hich are often associated w ith their central members.
