Literary Image of a Feminist ——Comment on the Woman of Bath Portrayed by Chaucer

从女权主义批评的视角,就乔叟笔下的巴斯妇形象,由其女性主义婚姻观、争取妇女社会权益及强调女性家庭地位三方面进行讨论,分析其展示的女权主义特色,继而进一步探讨造就巴斯妇女权主义者的历史、社会及性格诸因素,并因此得出结论,认为这一女权主义者的文学形象,乃是乔叟所持的人文主义思想的产物。

This paper is intended,from the perspective of feminist criticism,to analyze the feminist features displayed by the Woman of Bath,a literary image portrayed by Chaucer,in the three aspects of her stand,that is,her feminist concept of marriage,her striving for w omen ＇s social rights and her emphasis on w omen＇s position in their families,then go further to explore the factors that lead the Woman of Bath to a feminist from the history and society of her time as w ell as her ow n character,and finally draw the conclusion that this literary image of a feminist is actually the product of Chaucer＇s humanist thought.
