所谓万向节，就是联结两个有角位移变化的轴，将主动（输入）轴上的扭矩传递到从动（输出）轴，并同时进行旋转运动的机械装置。而在一定角度范围内，使两轴每一瞬时角速度比永远等于1的万向节叫等速万向节。等速万向节又分为固定型等速万向节（指球笼式）和伸缩型等速万向节（包括双偏置式、球销式等）。前者只能改变两轴的夹角；后者在改变两轴夹角的同时，还可在一定范围内改变两轴的距离。
