他者生存的本质悖论导致了其行为主体的生存困境,欧文·韦尔什的作品用独特的笔触探求解困之道,并借此解构主流文化霸权,创建包容他者的文化空间。《猜火车》的成功之处不仅在于对另类行为入木三分的刻画,更在于其展示了瑞顿如何颠覆传统二元生存空间,最终成功走出了"用毒品守护心灵"的窘境。克尔凯郭尔的人生哲学给瑞顿以灵感,促使他在主流社会的招安与青年的"白色反抗"之间作出自主选择,实现了对他者角色从本体论到认识论的转向,以及主体意识从本能自发到文化自觉的飞跃。
As the cultural other, the subject of alternative existence is plighted in its own natural para- dox. In his works, Irvine Welsh uses his masterful techniques to subvert the hegemony of the mainstream cul- ture and seeks to create an inclusive cultural space. Renton's alternative acts in Trainspotting, superb in the portrayal itself, function more to deconstruct the traditional dualistic space notion and help him extricate him- self from taking" drugs in psychic defence. "Renton gains enlightenment from Kierkegaard and makes a con- scious choice between absorptive mainstream culture and drug-abusive non-conformist culture, and thus a- chieves a conscious transformation in cultural roles.
