从文化视角探索杭州“直街”翻译

On the Translation of “Zhijie” in Hangzhou from a Cultural Perspective

目前,公示语汉英翻译强调顺应受众的语言和思维习惯,多采用归化策略。对具有传统文化特色的公示语而言,归化翻译策略抹杀了源语文化的话语权。文章以杭州特色通名"直街"为例,从文化视角出发分析"直街"一词的中文释义、来源出处以及历史文化内涵,探讨目前英译存在的问题,并提供恰当的英译方法,这有助于传播文化遗产、提升传统文化话语权。

The strategy of domestication is now widely accepted in the C-E translation of public signs. In this way, the target reader can understand what the source text means. However, the use of domestication in the translation of some public signs with Chinese characteristics tends to weaken the discourse power of source cul- ture. In this paper,incorrect translation for the Chinese word ＂Zhijie＂ has been noticed and collected. In view of this, this article discusses its Chinese interpretation, its origin, historical and cultural connotations and then points out an appropriate way to translate ＂Zhijie＂ from the cultural perspective. This is not only conducive to the dissemination of cultural heritage, but also helps to strengthen the discourse power of traditional culture.
