Objective: To investigate the changes and clinical significances of HDL-C subclasses (HDL2--C, HDL3-C) in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) and the effect of HDL2/3-C on HDL-C. Methods: HDL- C, HDL2-C and HDL3-C levels were detected in 135 controls with normal coronary artery (control group) and 318 CHD patients (CHD group). CHD group included patients with stable angina pectoris (n= 58), unstable angina pectoris (n= 186) and acute myocardial infarction (n= 74). Relationship between HDL-C subclasses and CHD as well as HDL-C were analysed. Result: Levels of HDL-C and HDL2 C in CHD group were significantly lower than those in control group (both P〈0.05). Correlation analysis showed that HDL2 C (r=0. 915, P〈0. 001) and HDL3-C (r=0. 356, P%0. 001) were significantly associated with HDL-C in CHD group, especially HDL2-C. Conclusion:Lower levels of HDL-C and HDL2-C are significantly associated with CHD, which indicates that HDL- C and HDL2-C may be protective factors in CHD. Lower level of HDL-C is mainly associated with decreased HDL2-C content in CHD patients.
