Mechanism,Patterns and Trends of Technological Evolution

The mechanism, patterns and trends of the technological evolution are described. A compar-ative study of the technological evolution and the biological evolution is given. It is pointed out that the technological evolution is actually the result of technological variation and selection. Technological evolution is co-evolution, and the emergence of new technologies results from the existence of technological niche. Technological evolution is the unity of technological heredity and variation, subjectivity and objectivity, and progressive leap and gradual development. The technological isolation mechanism leads to the technological geographical features. Finally, the basic trends of technological evolution are summed up.
