Proverbs are an important part of a language .They become an outstanding flower because of their conciseness ,popularity ,liveli-ness ,rhythmic harmoniousness and philosophy .Proverbs are knowledgeable ,interesting and literary .They are the fruits of peoples’ wis-dom .This paper conducts a contrastive analysis of the language features of English and Chinese proverbs and explores their pragmatic func-tions so that the readers can better understand the similarities and differences between the sounds ,vocabularies and sentence structures of English and Chinese proverbs so as to enrich their language knowledge and promote the ability of applying languages .
