There-be constructions, also known as the existential sentences, are one of the special categories in English. From the perspective of cognitive grammar, the paper takes it as its objective to characterize the distinction between the prototypical members of the construction and their non-central ones in pragmatic terms, hence revealing the topicality-oriented function of the latter.
