Boasting a long history,China's ancient theatrical stages,as one significant type of Chinese ancient architecture, were used for traditional opera performance.These theatrical stages,especially the extant stages built in Song, Yuan,Ming and Qing Dynasties,serve as valuable material objects which witnessed the origin,development and glories of Chinese traditional opera.As a special type of architecture heritage,most of the ancient theatrical stages were magnificent and gorgeous in appearance and were attached to religious or ceremonial buildings such as temples and ancestral halls for a long time.Many elements played important roles in the development of the theatrical stages,such as the opera performance,the scale of audience,the features of Chinese traditional architecture,building environment,local architectural style and so on.
