Jiao Bao-lin: The Inheritor of Nantong Tie-dye and his Techniques

扎染系我国传统手工印染技艺之一。作为江苏省非物质文化遗产保护项目"南通扎染技艺",其代表性传承人为国家级工艺美术大师焦宝林先生。焦宝林系南通海安人,多年来从事扎染技艺,在他的艰辛探索下,开创了南通"扎染画"的艺术先河。焦宝林的扎染作品有着鲜明的创作意图,其作品形与色自然交融、工与写巧妙结合、意与境浑然同载、技与艺完美并存,同时深刻地融合了中国传统审美意识及精神形态,对推动扎染艺术的民族文化发展具有十分重要的意义。

Tie-dye is one of the traditional techniques of textile printing. Nantong tie-dye, as the protective program of Intangible Cultural Heritage, are famous together with its inheritor, Jiao Bao-lin. Mr. Jiao was born in Hai＇an, Jiangsu, and has spent decades in tie-dyeing. Thanks to his efforts and explorations, he has initiated a new era for Nantong tie- dyed paintings. His works are of distinctive intentions, natural blending of forms and colors, intricate combination of brushwork and freehand, and integrate traditional aesthetics and ideology.
