This paper firstly raises some doubts about the first part of the article "On Chinese Image",and argues that some views in that article are not well grounded, instead they seem to be quite subjective, impressionistic and of an over-interpretation,and thus it is of an urge to give a relatively objective and impartial evaluation. The paper holds that far from distorting, misunderstanding and demonizing Chinese image, those Chinese images in the novel fully reveal Joyce and Irish people's yearning for and identification of the ancient mysterious oriental culture, presenting before its reads a legendary and romantic image of China.Additionally, these glittering images are vital to portraying Bloom's characteristics and foregrounding the motifs of the novel.Viewed from Irish Orientalism, the oriental language(Chinese) and cultural images, fully demonstrate the long-standing ties between the ancient oriental civilization and Irish civilization in terms of language and culture, and strengthening Bloom and Irish people's senses of identification and affiliation.Meanwhile, this hidden and ingenious narrative strategy is an effective weapon for James Joyce and other modern Irish writers to fight against colonialism and imperialism, well testifying Joyce's mental and artistic attainments.
