摘要
《小学万国地理新编》,1902年初版,陈独秀编著。该书多被认为是以自日本教科书为蓝本编译而成,其实有误。大量证据显示,该书主要是作者编著的,即便不排除对日本教科书的借鉴。该书既是我国近现代地理学中最早由国人自编的教科书之一,也是我国中小学教科书中最早的自编教科书之一,更体现了作者早期的民主自由思想和敏锐的政治洞察力,理应引起学界更大的关注。
World Geography for Primary Schools by Chen Duxiu, published in 1902, is occasionally mistaken for being based on the Japanese version. This paper argues that the book is originally compiled by Chen in spite of certain borrowings. The book is filled with his early conceptions of democratic freedom and sensible political insights.
