To study the effect of four kinds of animal fatty oils on the plasma glucose and lipids and relat- ed factors in the blood of rats,169 male SD rats were randomly divided into 5 groups, namely, the control group, the ovine fatty oil, swine fatty oil, bovine fatty oil and equine fatty oil fed groups, each of which was divided in to three sub-groups fed with different doses oI fatty oils, namely, high (2mL/100 g.bw) ,medium (lmL/100 g. bw) and low dose (0. S mL/100 g. bw), and the control group was fed with purified water ( 1 mL / 1 0 0 g. bw ) intragastrally. After 5 6 - day feeding experiment , the body weight , visceral fat weight ,plasma glucose (GLU),four plasma lipids i. e. ,high density lipoprotein (HDL-C) and low density lipopro rein (LDL-C) ,cholesterol (TC) ,triglyceride (TG) and the factors in the blood associated with lipid metab- olism i.e., insulin (INS), leptin (LEP), nitricoxide (NO), superoxidedismutase (SOD), malondialdehyde (MDA) were measured. There were no significant differences in the animal's body weight and LEP,NO between different animal fatty oils fed group and the control group, however the visceral fat weight in rats fed with high dose of different fatty oils as well as in rats fed with medium dose of swine and equine fatty oils was increased significantly (P 〈0.05).The plasma glucose content was extremely increased in rats fed with medium dose of ovine fatty oil, high and medium dose of equine fatty oils were much more than that in the control (P 〈0.01) ,and significantly increased in the rat fed with low dose of ovine fatty oil and high dose of bovine oil (P 〈0.05).The plasma HDL-C content in the rat fed with high dose of ovine fatty oil was significantly increased (P 〈0.05),and extremely increased in the rat fed with high dose of swine fatty oil (P 〈0.01) ,whereas only high dose of bovine fatty oil feeding stimulated rat's LDIzC increasing signifi- cantly (P 〈0.05).The plasma TC content in rats fed with either bovine or equine fatty oils was extremely increased (P 〈0.01) ,and only high dose of ovine fatty oil feeding could stimulate rat's TG increasing sig- nificantly (P 〈0.05).The insulin was extremely decreased in the rat fed with high and medium dose of e quine fatty oil (P 〈0.01).The melondialdehyde was extremely decreased in the rat fed with ovine and swine fatty oils (P 〈0.01).The superoxide dismutase was extremely decreased in the rat fed with bovine and equine fatty oils (P 〈0.01).Four animal fatty oils had no effect on the body weight,LEP and NO.Dif ferent animal fatty oils had different impact on plasma glucose and plasma lipids.-ovine fatty oil raised plas- ma HDL-C and TG level, swine fatty oil raised plasma HDL-C level, however, bovine and equine fatty oils increased plasma total cholesterol level extremely.Different animal fatty oils had no impact on LEP,where- as ovine and swine fatty oils elevated the plasma melondiatdehyde, and bovine and equine fatty oils could significantly increase SOD level suggesting bovine and equine fatty oils had antioxidant effect.
