伊格尔斯等人写作的《全球史学史——从18世纪至当代》,对全球史学发展脉络做出了梳理,但是在全球史学的起源问题上,作者将18世纪作为全球史学开端的观点是值得商榷的。基于此观点,回顾了18世纪的史学发展历程,认为其中所包含的理性主义、民族主义倾向是后世欧洲中心论的滥觞,并未造成全球史的真正繁荣,20世纪初才是全球史学真正意义上的开端。
