Ancient Yingzhou (Chaoyang today) in Dalinghe River basin was an important transport hub to con- nect the Central Plains with the Northeast, and Northeast Asia with Central Asia. Either agricultural civilization in the Central Plains, or civilization of the Syr Darya River in Central Asia, or grassland civilization were well integrated and developed with Chaoyang as a center. In the Sui and Tang dynasties, in particular, Yingzhou, owing to its geographical advantages and multi-ethnic development, had been an important political, economic, trade and cultural center of West Liaoning as well as Northeast China. Since the 1950s, a large number of tombs of the Sui and Tang dynasties have been discovered in the Chaoyang area, more than 205, to be exact, by 2010. Thousands of burial objects unearthed from these tombs imprint brilliant and splendid civilization in the history. Yingzhou in the Sui and Tang dynasties played an important role in the cultural dissemination, social progress, national integration and economic development in the northeast China as well as in the Northeast Asia region. The review of these findings will help us better understand the status and the influence of Yingzhou in the Sui and Tang dynasties.
