Thomas Hardy＇s tragic narrative arts and his thoughts come from the complex formed when he was in his native land, Dorset. The analysis of the then social history and Wessex novels series using psychoanalysis theory shows that national industrial reform and modernization strike Thomas Hardy＇s affection for his native land, contributing to his native land com- plex that the native land does not exist anymore though he misses it. By traumatic writing, Hardy not only expresses his nos- talgic enthusiasm for the fading Dorset hometown after the national industrial reform, but also yells out his appeal to British authority for considering the civilian yearning for their native land when the national economic reform is carried out.
