关于汉字起源的问题，历来有多种多样的说法，如契刻说、八卦说、手势说、起一成文说、仓颉造字说、图画说等。这些说法大多是有道理的，但其中几乎每一种说法，都被持该观点的人当作汉字的唯一源头，应该说，都犯了以偏概全的错误（包括图画说）。实际上汉字的源头多种多样，并不是单一的。

As to the origin of Chinese characters, there are various theories such as engraving theory, the Eight Trigrams, gestures, ＂--＂ as the first stem, Cang Jie＇ s invention, picture etc. To some extend, these the- ories seem justifiable, but advocates of each theory take their own theory as the only one hence the mistake of overgeneralization.
