The foreign trade of China kept growing at a rate of 6.2% in 2012 and contributed a lot to the global trade and economic revival. As the largest exporter around the world, the country raised its comprehensive competence on foreign trade again. Our annual report on the competitiveness of Chinese industries demonstrates this trend. The manufacturing industries as a group heightened their competence and consolidated the role of China as a great player in the global market. Among the 30 subindustries of manufacturing sector, 21 saw increases in their competence. Some subindustries of the manufacturing sector, such as the metal product industry and the furniture manufacturing industry, were kept growing rapidly. The production and supply industry of electricity, fuel gas and water also increased their competence rapidly. Compared with the manufacturing industry, the industry of agriculture, forestry, stock raising and fishery, and the mining industry suffered from weak competences. Both of them are net import industries. All these signs indicate that China is steadily boosting its industrial transformation and updates. During the adjustment and rebalance of the global economy and trade, the country's foreign trade growth may slow down but its development pattern will definitely be improved. These could be the primary boost for more efficient growth in the future.
