《周易》之“贞”辩说

The Debate of the Meaning of "贞(chen) " in The Book of Changes

“贞”是《周易》全书的“关键词”之一，对这一概念理解的不同，不仅关涉到概念本身的意义确指，更关涉到对《周易》这部著作的性质、内涵的理解。而学者对“贞”的解说至今分歧甚大，举其要者，大约有两种：其一，传统说法训“贞”为“正”，作为主流最为通行。此说实际上指明了，“贞”为道德人伦的哲理概念，认为《周易》之作涵盖着天道、人生，具有深刻的哲理，全书具有指导社会、人生的经典意义。其二，上世纪新易学以来，一些学者强调“贞”为“贞卜之贞”（高亨，第110页），“贞”就是“占问”。这一说法指明的是，“贞”为占筮操作的一个过程，即占卜，认为《易经》不过卜筮之作，无关乎人生哲理，其性质更多的是一部非理性的巫术记录，充其量是在占筮之辞中保留了当时零散的社会史料，其价值有限，《易传》才是哲学著述。可见，“贞”虽为《周易》中的一个具体概念，但所折射的问题却关系重大，是理解《周易》所无法绕过的关隘。为此笔者不揣固陋，欲对这一概念进行疏解，辩说两种训释，既期望求证这一概念的本然意义，也期望赖此进一步说明《周易》自身的性质、内涵。

The Chinese word 贞(it pronounces chen) in The Book of Changes is one of the key concepts which explain the theory of the book,but as yet,there are also different interpretations of it.In this article,the author explored the historical causes and the people's interpretations of the concept of 贞 by the study of the intellectual history,archaeology,linguistics and philology,and considered that the traditional explanation which takes 贞 as 正(it pronounces zheng) is in consonance with the theory of The Book of Changes and the true nature of the book.
