用字如用人。用人要当,用字要恰。当,是用人的原则;恰,是用字的标准。用字通于用人。用其长,则见其长;用其短,则见其短。东西南北,本是几个平平常常的方位名词,但一经诗人过手,置于诗里,它们就会在特定的语言环境中,大放光彩,各呈异趣,表现出种种微妙的情韵和独特的美学效果。

Good diction is important to writing, just like a suitable person for a job. Clumsy diction may reduce the readability of composition, just like an unsuitable person may bring lots of troubles in the work. The localizers ＂north, south, east and west＂, once being used properly in Chinese poems, will convey multiple meanings and enhance the aesthetic quality between the lines.
