运用原型批评理论解析《琼斯王》中原型的构建,琼斯在剧中的经历依次呈现出意象原型"人格面具"和"阴影",及人物原型"救世主",揭示出该剧的结构原型:U型叙事模式。该剧情的设置传达出剧作家奥尼尔的人生理念:抵制物质上的贪念,获得灵魂上的救赎。
The archetypal theory explains the construction of archetypes in The Emperor Jones. Jones＇ ex periences display successively archetypal images ＂ persona＂ and ＂shadow＂, and archetypal character ＂Sav ior＂, which reveals the archetypal structure of the play ： U shaped narrative pattern. This plot arrangement conveys the playwright O＇ Neill＇ s philosophy of life ： resist the temptation of material possession to get the re demption for the soul.
