Joseph Brodsky,a Russian-American poet and the 1987winner of the Nobel Prize for literature,is regarded as one of the most influential poets in the history of 20th century′s Russian literature and world literature. His poems expound the nature of being by metaphor, and persistently focus on time′s influence on people.Based on the study of one of the core images in Brodsky′s poems—the ancient Greek and Roman images, this paper, from the perspective of memory, love and life, explores Brodsky′s meditation on the ontological problem of being and reveals the nothingness of being affected by time.
