Modernization and Regionalism: Some Reflections on the Work of CUI Kai

崔愷是中国新生代建筑师里最广受评议的代表之一。有着近30年职业生涯的他,很难再被视作一名年轻的建筑师,尽管如此,他不墨守成规的思考方式和激进的设计手法使其成为新生代中国建筑师中的先锋人物,成为许多建筑系学生和年轻建筑师的精神向导。他的作品是对当今主流建筑中盛行的消费主义的一种强有力的回应,在遵循现代理性和技术逻辑的同时,又深深植根于中国的传统文化和当下现实。

CUI Kai is one of the most profiled representatives of this new generation of Chinese architects. With a professional career of almost 30 years he barely can be called a young architect, but with his unconventional way of thinking and his radical design approaches he became a pioneer for the new generation of native designers, giving orientation to many students and young professionals. His projects are a strong response to the easy-going consumerism in mainstream architecture, are indebted to the rationality and technical dearness of modern thinking, simultaneously deeply rooted both in the tradition and the present condition of China.
