This paper reviews the important role architectural details had played in the past, observes the diminishing attention they have received since the rise of modernism, and explores possible reasons of the ignorance of detail from both conceptual and practical standpoints. Challenging on the grounds of ethics and professionalism the legitimacy of having imported celebrity architects design buildings in absentia while local collaborating architects take no credit, the paper argues that negligence of building details is inevitable in such a design continuum.
