Originally from ancient India, pattra-leaf scriptures are sutras written on the leaves of pattra plants. Before paper technology was passed on to India, Indians wrote on pattra leaves. Then, Buddhists wrote scriptures and drew Buddha portraits on leaves as well, thus the category of pattra-leaf scriptures appeared. Pattra leaves are light and wearresistant, on which words are distinct even after hundreds of years.
