In Part III and Part IV of ICAO test, test-takers have to listen to prompts and complete the conversation with pilots＇ responses and retell a short aviation-related story respectively. For the two parts, test-takers need to rely on both their listening skills and short-term memories. Studies from interpretation cases have shown that systematic note-taking complements short-term memories. The use of symbols and abbreviations helps listeners to write down key information and sort out their relations in a systematic and logical way. Therefore, a good note-taking system can ease pressure, improve listening and benefit oral presentation.
