In the 1920s, a large number of American films flooded into China, such as detective, spoof and romance movies. Popularity of the U.S. movies drew the Chinese national bourgeoisie intellectuals' attention, showing a bipolar trend. One is a positive attitude towards American movies, giving a high appraisal to presentation skills and ideological content and regarding American movies as textbooks. The other is the national independence and cultural independence stance, giving strict criticism of American movies and considering the U.S. movies' content harmful to the society and a double aggression against China's culture and economy. At present, they still constitute the Chinese people' s basic cognition about Hollywood movies.
