The production process for dodecyl methyl sulfox- ide, by two-step method of thioether synthesis and oxidation, was reasonable and economic. Firstly,the two-step production method of dodecyl methyl sulfoxide was discussed, with spe-cial emphasis on the key problems, such as the synthesis of dodecyl methyl sulfide by methytated with 1-dodecanethiol as raw material, the oxidation and catalysis systems of dodecyl methyl sulfide to synthesize dodecyl methyl sulfoxide. Then the usages of dodecyl methyl sulfoxide in organic synthesis and medicine field was summarized. Finally, the development direction of the two-step production methods and the applica-tion prospect of dodecyl methyl sulfoxide were summaried.
