论文学翻译的补偿原则——兼评莫言小说《檀香刑》的英译

On Compensation Principle in Literary Translation——Comment on English Translation of Mo Yan's Novel Sandalwood Penalty

文学翻译不仅是两种语言的转换艺术,而且是两种文化的转换。两种语言之间的文化差异决定了文学作品翻译的不可译性,因此,翻译过程中补偿手段必不可少。但是补偿也应遵循一定的原则,必须尊重原作者,不能曲解作者的意图,或是任意增减原文信息,出现"超额翻译"和"欠额翻译"。文学翻译补偿原则的研究对于译者在翻译文学作品时使用补偿手段具有一定的指导作用。

Literary translation is the conversion of two languages and two cultures as well. Cultural differences between the two languages determined the untranslatability of literary works; therefore, compensation means is essential in the process of translation. However, compensation should follow certain principles. The original author should be respected and not misinterpreted and the original message shall be not increased or decreased, for example, Redundant Translation or Under Translation. The study will help translators use compensation means in translating hterary works.
