艾略特的代表作《普鲁弗洛克的情歌》中,主人公普鲁弗洛克的爱情悲剧从很大程度上反映了其性格悲剧,诗人在对人物性格的塑造以及悲剧形成的描述上着重突出普鲁弗洛克在日常交际中的矛盾点,认为他对普通人交际中所需原则的颠覆是导致其性格悲剧与爱情失败的主要原因之一。以合作原则、礼貌原则、关联原则和对意识凸显程度的顺应为语用理据,对《情歌》中普鲁弗洛克的性格悲剧进行解读。

The love tragedy of Prufrock in T. S. Eliot＇s master work The Love Song of Prufrock reflects Prufrock＇s character tragedy to a great extent. In the building of Prufrock＇s character and forming of his tragedy, the poet pays attention to highlight the contradictory points in daily communication, and presents that Prufrock＇s subverting to the necessary principles in common people＇s communication is one of the im- portant reasons that lead to his character tragedy and love failure. This paper aims to give an analysis to Prufrock＇s character failure through the combination of pragmatic motivations as cooperative principle, po- liteness principle, relative principle, and salience in adaptation theory.
