According to DIannan Benchao (The herbal medicine of Southem Yunnan), Some scholars argued that maize was planted by minority nationalities of Southwest China before Columbus’ discovery of America in 1492. They raised the viewpoints as follows: there was original wild maize in Yunnan - Guishou plateau;Glutinous maize originated from China; there was maize in China in the Han Dynasty. Having made a cautious textual research, the paper think that those arguments are based on some unreliable records.
