After the completion of Ming Tombs Reservoir, the seepages are quite serious along the dam foundation and the ancient river channel, and then the storage capacity of the reservoir is far insufficient. Therefore, cutoff walls are constructed at both the dam toe and the tail of the reservoir in 1962 and 1991 respectively. Through the practical verification for decades of years, the anti-seepage effect is very significant. Under the lower water level, the seepage of the reservoir is assessed during the period that no any water-takings from the upstream water-users ; i.e. a brief analysis on the seepage is made in accordance with the principle of water balance. Through the relevant measurement and calculation, the daily mean seepage of the reservoir is a- bout 10 000 m3 under the condition of no any water-takings and other potential recharges.
