With the network configuration of Central China Power System in2 0 0 0 as background,the capability of enhancing the voltage stability with± 2 0 Mvar static synchronous compensator STATCOM developed jointly by He'nan Electric Power Com pany and Tsinghua U niversity is studied.The principles of selecting the location and controlling objective of the STATCOM are discussed and the corresponding conclusions are obtained. These sim ulation works are helpful for the industrialization of STATCOM.
