The bronze burial pits at Zhonghang site, Xinzheng, Henan province, which is regarded as a site associated with ceremonies worshipping the soil gods, are later than the sacrificial horse burial pits. The buried bronzes were probably used as bribes given by the Zheng state to other powerful states. The sacrificial horses are associated with sacrifices or sorcery involved in the bronze casting process.
