Structural,Pragmatic and Cognitive Features of Left Dislocation Constructions in English——A Study Based on Obama's Public Speeches

英语左偏置(LD)构式属于非正式语体,但在新闻和演讲等较正式的言语交际中并不鲜见,这与其独特的结构和功能有关。本文以奥巴马的数次演讲为主要语料,分析了LD构式的结构特征,从中发现了一种新的LD构式变体。功能分析围绕话题、语篇、简化和强调等作用进行,也关注到容易被忽略的人际功能。最后,尝试从语用和认知两个方面对LD构式进行理据分析。

English left dislocation （LD） is usually considered informal, but it is not a rarity in media news and public speech, owing to its unique structure and functions. This paper studies the structural, pragmatic and cognitive features of LD constructions, based on some of Obama＇ s public speeches. In the empirical research, a new variant of LD is identified in the process of structure analyzing, and interpersonal features gain their due attention together with other pragmatic functions. Finally, the formation of LD is interpreted from both pragmatic and cognitive aspects.
