This paper introduces common medium voltage coupling devices and their application environments and attenuation characteristic. A medium voltage power line carrier attenuation estimation method applicable to the overhead lines, the buried cable lines and the hybrid lines is proposed by reviewing the references. On-site tests in a distribution network automation with medium voltage carrier networking validate the feasibility of the proposed estimation method. The proposed method provides a certain reference for carrier project design and networking planning.
