A Brief Analysis of the Characters in “Journey to the West”

《西游记》是我国古典四大名著之一,也是古代浪漫主义小说的巅峰之作,脱胎于唐朝玄奘取经的故事,主要讲述了唐僧、孙悟空、猪八戒和沙僧师徒四人在西天拜佛求经途中遇到的各种磨练和传奇事迹。作为一部优秀的神话小说,《西游记》前后提及了400多个人物,塑造了许多家喻户晓的经典形象,如勇敢的孙悟空、懦弱的唐僧、善良慈悲的观音等。本文主要对唐僧师徒四人进行了分析。

＂Journey to the West＂, as one of the four famous Chinese classical works, is the pinnacle of ancient romantic novels.The novel, originating from the story about Xuanzang＇s pilgrimage for Buddhist scriptures in the Tang Dynasty, mainly narrates the anneals and legendary deeds of Tang Monk and his three disciples, Monkey King, Pigsy and Sandy on their pilgrimage to the West for Buddhist scriptures. As a brilliant mythological novel, ＂Journey to the West＂ has mentioned over 400 characters altogether, and molded many household classic images, suchas brave Monkey King, cowardly Tang Monk, kind and merciful Guanyin bodhisattva, and so on. Tang Monk and his three disciples are mainly discussed in this paper.
