In the autumn 2012 through the spring 2013, the Joint Epang Palace and Shanglin Park Archaeological Team conducted coring test to the ruins of the Kunming Lake of the Han and Tang Dynasties in Xi'an, by which a large-sized ditch or channel (numbered as G1) stretching in southwest-northeast orientation was found beneath the silt layers of the lake bottom. Sectioning result showed that the date of the use of this ditch was the Western Zhou Dynasty, and two chariot and horse pits of the Western Zhou Dynasty were also found and excavated to its west. The coring test revealed densely distributed ash pits, burials, chariot and horse pits and other remains of the Western Zhou Dynasty to the west of this ditch but no remains of the Western Zhou Dynasty have been found to its east, indicating that the G1 was an important border of the Western Zhou remains in the Kunming Lake area, which provided new data for confirming the scope of Haojing. The discoveries of the chariot and horse pits and other remains of the Western Zhou Dynasty surrounding them filled up the blank of the Western Zhou archaeology in this area and are very valuable for the research on the planning of the Haojing Site.
