Compared to popular Tibetan tourist destinations like Lhasa, Shigatse and Shangri-La, Yushu is more of original ecology, which is located in the border along Qinghai, Sichuan, and Tibet. The cultural icon of Yushu is called Xinzhai Mani dui, which are piles of rocks collected by Tibetans and usually located at hilltops, junctions, lakeside or outside temple as a holy place to pray. Rocks were accumulated in years until it formed a pile about 3 meters in height and as big as a football field. The rocks were engraved with various contents, such as lections, law, calendar, art, etc, representing people's belief and hopes for a better life. The Bazi-Playing Festival comes each year at the end of July, mainly comprised of a horse-riding race and a goods-exchange meeting. The festival assembles people, especially the proud and aggressive males of the region characterized by their vagrant way of life. Years of nomadic life gives them such a wild temperament that they got the name of Tibetan gypsy.During the festival, people put on the most valuable clothes and accessories, to show how wealthy family they are coming from.
