The Origin and Spread of Kidnapping in South China in the Qing Period

拐匪是近代非法拐卖劫掠人口的群体。鸦片战争前后,华南拐匪主要来自西方列强和部分东南亚会党。1850—1880年,拐匪拐掠进入"黄金"时期,急剧扩散,出现了大量的"生人"拐匪和"熟人"拐匪,波及面相当广,深入到平民百姓,反映了人性的复杂和国民劣根性,需要认真反思,防止悲剧重演。

Kidnapping bandits were engaged in the kidnapping and trafficking of people in modern times.Prior to and after the Opium War,kidnapping bandits in south China came mainly from the western powers and secrete societies in Southeast Asia.During the 1850-1880period,kidnapping bandits entered into a'Golden'period and spread radically.There emerged a large number of'strangers'bandits and'acquaintances'bandits.They affected large areas and infiltrated into the populace.The phenomenon reflects the complex human nature and the base national traits.Serious reflection is needed to prevent similar tragedies from happening again.
