OBJECTIVE To study the value of 6S management model in prevention of infections in the patients undergoing surgical procedure so as to provide theoretical basis for the prevention of postoperative infections. METHODS Totally 96 patients who needed the surgical procedure from Dec 2011 to Dec 2012 were enrolled in the study and randomly divied into two groups, with 48 cases in each, then the control group was treated with the COnventional nursing while the surgical procedure was performed, the observation group was additionally given the 6S management model based on the conventional nursing, including sort, straighten, sweep, sanitary, sentiment, and safety; the incidence of incision infections and complications and the hospitalization duration were observed and compared between the two groups, the quality of management and the status of surgical procedure were evaluated, the statistical analysis was performed with the use of SPSS13.0 software, the t-test was conducted for the eompar- ison, and the ehi-square test was carried out for the count data. RESULTS None cases of postoperative infections occurred in the observation group, while the infections occurred in 3 cases with the infection rate of 6. 25%; the incidence of complications was 2.08% in the observation group, 6.25% in the control group. After the managementation of the 6S management model, the operation procedure score of the doctor and nursing staff and the quality assessment score of the cases were significantly higher than those before the implementation of the 6S management model and those of the control group, the differences between the two groups were statistically significant (p〈0. 05). CONCLUSION The 6S management mode can achieve significant effect on the prevention of surgical site infections, markedly reduce the incidence of surgical site infections and the complications, standardize the opera- tion procedure, and optimize the quality of clinical data.
