Kouduo Richao (Diary of Oral Admontions) is an important text of recording religious life of Catholics in Fujian in Late Ming Dynasty. From the perspective of contemporary theory on sociology of religion, this paper aims to describe and explain in the text the formation and characteristics of objective commitment and subjective commitment of members in this com- munity. It argues that this community gives more priority to objective commitment than to subjective commitment. Their attach- ment to Catholic orthopraxy coincides, probably unconsciously and formally, with emphasis upon orthopraxy placed by the im- perial state of China. This might be one of the most important reasons why the Catholicism could develop so rapidly in Fujian in Late Ming Dynasty.
