Chronotope,a Bakhtinian concept, opens up a new approach to the space narrative in Martin Dressier by both integrating space with time in narrative analysis and emphasizing the interaction between space-time and character or plot. The chronotope of the novel is embodied in the city, restaurant and museum at the turn of the 20th century, making the novel an allegory of capital.Although the protagonist makes success by involving the space production, his final failure lies with his fall into the trap of capital by his "spatial fetishness",thus giving expression to the author's criticism against the disillusioned American Dream as ideology.
