The Touch by the Australian novelist, Colleen MeCullough is considered to be her most successful family saga and romance after The Thorn Birds. In this novel, McCullough, in an exquisite and lifelike style, successfully portrays such vivid characters as Ruby, Elizabeth and Neill, whose persistent pursuit of love and freedom changes their own fate and moulds their life into "a work of art". This thought by McCullough on female existence aesthetics serves as valuable reference and inspiration for the present female existence.
