Thomas Hardy was always pressed by publishers and readers to alter the plot and characters of his stories. It is also influenced by the market to adapt his fiction into movies and TV plays. This paper took Tess of the D IUrbervilles and Jude the Obscure for example, analyzed three factors of the influence, and concluded that pop culture is the result of struggle and cooperation between individual artistic pursuit and market.
