Biography of Wang Shuhuan-an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering

2013年10月8日10时30分，中国工程院院士、第八届北京市政协副主席、北京积水潭医院名誉院长王澍寰同志，因病医治无效与世长辞。

Wang Shuhuan： Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Vice-chairman of the eighth Beijing Municipal Committee of the Political Consultative Conference; Honorary president of Beijing Jishuitan Hospital; 1985-1993 Chairman of Chinese Othopaedic Association; 1994- 1997 Chairman of Chinese Hand Surgery Association; 1997-2013 Honorary chairman of Chinese Hand Surgery Association.Wang Shuhuan has struggled all his life for the progress of hand surgery techniques in China even abroad. 1959： He firstly established the discipline of Hand Surgery of our country in Beijing Jishuitan Hospital. 1963： He took the lead in conducting the experimental research and clinical application of microvascular surgery with the diameter less than l mm, and performed the replantation of amputated ears of rabbits and arterial anastomosis of fingers successfully. 1964： A 4-year-oldboy underwent vascular reconstruction smoothly under the magnifying glass with the diameter only 0.4 ram, and his amputated forefinger in the second and third segments were saved. 1978： He firstly published the monograph ＂Hand Surgery＂ in China. As the pioneer and thunder of the discipline of Hand Surgery in our country, he has made creative contributions to its establishment and development. 1985： He founded the Journal of Hand Surgery, serving as editor- in-chief. 1988： He was awarded as the expert with outstanding contributions in Beijing. 1992： He was granted Bole Award by Beijing Municipal Health Bureau, and also enjoyed high prestige all over the world. 1993： The Journal of Hand Surgery was officially renamed as Chinese Journal of Hand Surgery, and he was recommended as the first chief editor. 1997： He was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. At 10：30 am, October 8 th, 2013, he passed away.
